Blackpool have appointed Steve Bruce as their new manager. The former Manchester United defender has signed a two-year deal with the Seasiders.

What Happened?

Steve Bruce has been out of management since leaving West Bromwich Albion in 2022. He replaces Neil Critchley, who was sacked after Blackpool started the season with back-to-back defeats in League One.

Blackpool's owner, Simon Sadler, noted Bruce's ability to develop the side's coaches in addition to their players. Sadler said: “I'm confident that Steve’s experience and leadership qualities will be a tremendous asset for Blackpool Football Club.”

Why It Matters for Blackpool

The appointment of Steve Bruce is a significant move for Blackpool, who are currently 22nd in League One. Bruce will be joined by Steve Agnew as his assistant head coach, while Richard Keogh and Stephen Dobbie will remain at the club as first team coaches.

What Comes Next?

Blackpool's next match is against Exeter City on September 14. With Bruce at the helm, the Seasiders will be looking to turn around their season and climb up the League One table.

As of the current season, Blackpool have scored 54 goals and conceded 65, resulting in a goal difference of -11. They are 43 points behind leaders Lincoln, but with Bruce's experience and leadership, they will be hoping to close the gap and make a push for the top spots.
