Blackpool FC manager Ian Evatt has praised Jordan Williams as a key signing for the Tangerines, bringing experience and leadership to the team. The 26-year-old defender joined Blackpool on a season-long loan from Portsmouth last week and made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Port Vale.

Why it matters for Blackpool

Evatt believes Williams' experience in League One will be key for the team's success this season. Williams has previously been promoted with Barnsley in 2019 and has 53 appearances for Portsmouth in the Championship. Evatt said: "I think he's a really good signing - everyone's going to go on to see that. He's experienced, he knows the level, and is a leader."

Despite Portsmouth's interest in recalling Williams in January, Evatt is focused on making the most of the defender's loan spell. He said: "I'm not even thinking about that, it's another fire you've probably started for me. As far as I know, Jordan is here for the season, and hopefully longer-term."

Blackpool's transfer business

The addition of Williams comes after the signings of Dion Charles, Ilmari Niskanen, and Karoy Anderson. Evatt admitted: "We know where we're short. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand where this squad is short, and as always, we're working very hard to make the best decisions for this football club."

Blackpool are currently on a 5-game winning run, with 54 goals scored and 65 conceded this season. They are 43 points behind leaders Lincoln in the title race and next face Leicester at home on October 3.
