Blackpool FC has launched a new matchday bus service in partnership with Blackpool Transport to improve travel for Seasiders fans. The dedicated 'Seaside Specials' will begin operation on Saturday, September 12, connecting the town centre directly to Bloomfield Road.
This initiative aims to tackle congestion around the stadium and provide a more reliable travel option. The service will run for every home league fixture and selected cup matches, offering a practical alternative for supporters.
The service will operate on a loop between Market Street and Rigby Road. Buses will depart every fifteen minutes for two hours before kick-off and continue for one hour after the final whistle. This schedule is designed to manage the flow of fans arriving and leaving the stadium efficiently.
Supporters can avoid a twenty-minute walk from the town centre by boarding the new buses. The last stop is situated just a few minutes' walk from the ground, a detail highlighted as particularly helpful for those with mobility issues or during poor weather. The service uses the standard fare structure, including popular Duo and Family tickets.
Jamie Swift of Blackpool Transport explained the thinking behind the affordable travel plan. "The service will be subject to our usual fares, including our popular Duo and Family tickets, offering an affordable travel option for anyone who wants quick and convenient access to the Bloomfield Road stadium," Swift said.
He also pointed out the accessibility benefits of the new route. "This is particularly important for anyone who struggles to walk far, as the last stop is just a few minutes from the ground, and a welcome alternative to a long trek from the town centre for everyone on dark nights or during poor weather." The partnership demonstrates an ongoing commitment to serving the local community and improving the matchday environment.
The launch coincides with a busy period for the team. Blackpool currently sits 11th in the League One table with seven points from five games.
