The funeral for lifelong Blackpool supporter and former council officer George Holden will be held at Carleton Crematorium on Monday. Refreshments will follow at Blackpool Football Club’s Mahou Lounge, with attendees encouraged to wear tangerine clothing.
Community and public service legacy
Holden dedicated decades to public service in Blackpool. He was a youth and community officer and service manager for Blackpool Council until his retirement. His roles included honorary secretary for the Blackpool Council for Voluntary Youth Services, a trustee for Healthwatch Blackpool, and an elected public governor of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He also served on the board of the Bispham-based charity Empowerment and was a stalwart of the Blackpool Fylde and Wyre Council for Voluntary Service. His work in youth services involved international travel.
Personal life and family
A lifelong Blackpool FC fan and member of the Emblem Masonic Lodge, Holden was married to his wife Diana. He leaves Diana, their daughter Lisa, grandson Jake, and brother Peter. Diana said, "George loved his time in public service, especially when he was at the CVS."
How to pay tribute
Donations in his memory are invited to Trinity Hospice or The Samaritans via Funeralcare Blackpool. The club's community ties are a constant as the first team prepares for its next League One fixture.
