Blackpool defender Olly Casey says he is focused solely on his performances as he enters the final year of his contract at Bloomfield Road. The 25-year-old is one of 11 players whose deals are set to expire next summer, creating a significant backdrop to the club's season.
Casey, who joined from Leeds United in 2021 and has made 149 appearances, had a one-year option activated to keep him for this campaign. He told reporters his priority is on the pitch. "For me it’s just head down and concentrate on the football," Casey said. "I’ll let the football do the talking, and let my agent and the club sort it out."
Squad decisions loom
The group of players in the same contractual position includes goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell and outfield players Andy Lyons, CJ Hamilton, Albie Morgan, and Hayden Coulson. A further six players have 12-month options in their contracts, meaning the club faces a series of decisions on Zac Ashworth, George Honeyman, Josh Bowler, Niall Ennis, and Luke Southwood.
This comes as Blackpool sit 10th in League One with 8 points from their opening six matches. Their recent form shows one win, one draw, and three defeats from the last five games, a run they will aim to improve starting with Saturday's home fixture against Plymouth Argyle. The team has accumulated 1,080 goal minutes so far this season, a statistic they will be looking to build upon in their next match.
Casey, who has featured in a back three alongside Jordan Williams and Josh Earl this season, said he is comfortable in the middle of that system but is happy to play anywhere. "I’m just happy if I’m playing," he stated. "It’s about keeping my own consistency no matter who I am playing with."
The defender's immediate focus is on helping the team climb the standings, with the next opportunity coming against sixth-placed Plymouth at Bloomfield Road on September 19. The fixture presents a key challenge as Blackpool seek to improve their form and league position.
