Blackpool's tramway rolling stock was manufactured by Bombardier, now part of Alstom, at its sites in Germany and Austria between 2010 and 2017. The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has ordered Blackpool Transport to carry out urgent repairs after an inspection found a risk of bogie degradation. Bogie degradation is where the axles of trams and trains become worn during years of use due to vibrations. Inspector Lyndsay Pyke said some of the resort's trams could be at risk of 'derailment or collision' if the problem was not fixed. Tram bosses have reassured passengers that safety is their 'top priority' after being given until June 19 to carry out the repairs. Blackpool Transport operates the trams in the resort.
